Red Sea Zachron
Canst thou fill his skin with barbed iron? or his head with fish spears?
Job 41:7

Fishes! For the people of the Bible and the Holy Land, the once numerous seas and waterways of Israel generously provided a significant portion of their diet. Given to man as food only after the Flood, the importance of fish as an economic and dietary staple is evident throughout the Book of Books, while in the story of Job this natural order is reversed and the fish actually eats the man! Water and fish played a prominent roll in the many miracles attributed to Jesus, who often sojourned and preached in the fishing village of Capernaum on the shores of the Sea of Galilee.

With a border on three seas, the Sea of Galilee (Lake Kinneret), the Jordan river, and other smaller waterways, Israel knows all varieties of fish, both salt- and freshwater. These days they remain an important symbol in Jewish and Christian life in the Holy Land, the latter having adopted the fish as the symbol of Jesus' life and works, and of the abundance he bestowed upon his followers. Jews often serve whole fishes on Shabbat (the Sabbath), for Rosh HaShana (the Jewish New Year) just their heads: a message to God that the Jewish People hopes to be "the head" and not "the tail" in the year to come. Known as a "Lion Fish" in English, the spiky-headed creature featured on this T-Shirt is abundant in the waters of the Red Sea at the southern tip of the modern state of Israel. Should you ever come to vacation on the beaches of Eilat, remember that he's nice to look at, but gives a nasty sting if touched, much less eaten!
The Bible Land Shop's collection of T-Shirts is exclusively 100% cotton. "Red Sea Zachron" is available in adult sizes S, M, L, XL, and XXL. Please indicate your preference on the order form.
