Three For Peace
Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.
Matthew 10:16

Doves and pigeons (which, being of the same family of bird, are both "yonah" in Hebrew)
are perhaps the most frequently mentioned birds
in the Bible. They were often employed as
a substitute sacrifice by pilgrims to the Temple who could not afford a larger animal,
such as a goat or sheep. In the New Testament, they often symbolized the Holy Spirit and Jesus' gentleness, and in later days, residents of the Holy Land often kept them as pets, a means of communication, and as. . . well, since they are kosher, a reserve of fresh food!
Both doves and pigeons are to be found in abundance flapping across the skies of Israel today,
from the green forests of the north even to the deserts of the south.

At the Western Wall of the Temple they have built nests in the cracks between the ancient stones and seem to live there quite comfortably amidst the rising prayers. Our "Three For Peace", whose text reads: "Hear Peace, See Peace, Speak Peace", remind you to offer up a prayer for just that.
